Showtek is the globally celebrated producers and performing electronic duo composed of brothers Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen, who have dominated the international music industry on the strength of their melody-powered hooks, beat-heavy songs, and memorable anthems. Initially launched as a hardstyle duo in their native Netherlands, Showtek today morphed into undisputed leaders of the electronics dance genre, touting platinum-selling, chart-topping singles heard around the world.
Sjoerd and Wouter first stepped into the international spotlight in 2011, when the twosome began collaborating as producers and songwriters with the iconic Tiësto, which resulted in the fire-hot tracks “Miami,” “Chasing Summers,” and “Maximal Crazy.”
“I think it’s important to go through these phases of personal evolution and musical revolution,” says the group’s Wouter of their jump to the big leagues. “You can only make progress if you break through barriers.”
Today, Showtek’s musical journey sees the duo moving away from their past life as DJs and into a respectable position as bona fide producers and songwriters infiltrating the pop world. On “Believer”—released in the second half of 2016 via Mad Decent and Showtek’s own independent imprint, Skink—they join electronic powerhouse trio Major Lazer on a dubbed-out, reggae-tinged bass bomb that’s fueled by trap influences and hardstyle rawness. The track became a Top 20 hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and reached #23 in the official Dutch Top 40 chart, accumulating over 46 million streams on Spotify alone and achieving platinum status in the Netherlands.
